Introduction to NetBeans IDE
NetBeans IDE began as a student project in the Czech Republic around November 2001. Sun Microsystems later acquired it as an open-source project — its first sponsored open-source initiative. Today it is managed by netbeans.org, an independent organization.
The IDE runs on Windows, Linux, MacOS, and Solaris. It is fully open-source and free to use, providing software developers with the tools needed to create cross-platform Java desktop, enterprise, and web applications.
Key Features
- Profiler — monitor application performance and memory usage directly within the IDE.
- Mobility Pack — develop applications for mobile devices using Java ME.
- C/C++ Development Pack — extend the IDE for native C and C++ projects.
- Rich support for web and enterprise application development with rapid tooling.
Getting Started
To install NetBeans IDE, you need a Java runtime environment and the NetBeans installer. Both are available from the official download pages at java.sun.com and netbeans.org.
Once installed, the IDE provides an integrated environment for editing, building, debugging, and deploying Java applications across all supported platforms.
