Calling a Message Driven Bean in NetBeans

In the previous blog post Creating Message Driven Beans in NetBeans, we learned about developing a Message Driven Bean in NetBeans IDE. Here we will learn how to call it using features of NetBeans IDE.

Step 1: Create an Empty Java Class

First, create an empty Java class by selecting New → Java Class. Fill in the package name and other relevant information on the next screen, then press Finish. The class will be created with some generic code and will open in the IDE editor.

Step 2: Add a Main Method

Ensure the class includes a main method so it can be executed as a standalone program. If the generated template does not include one, add it manually.

Step 3: Use Enterprise Resources to Send a JMS Message

Inside the Java class, right-click and select Enterprise Resources → Send JMS Message. NetBeans IDE will generate the necessary code template for sending a message to the Message Driven Bean. This feature simplifies the JMS client code by handling connection and session boilerplate.

Step 4: Run the Program

With the code in place, run the program by pressing Shift+F6. This executes the class and sends a message to the Message Driven Bean deployed on the server. Verify that the MDB receives and processes the message as expected.
